Hardware news: run Fugo on your Rasbperry Pi 5!

Image #1

Fugo is now fully supported on Raspberry Pi 5, making us the first digital signage software provider to achieve this milestone 💪

Released at the end of 2023, the Raspberry Pi 5 brings substantial improvements over its predecessor:

  • New CPU (runs at a higher clock speed)
  • New GPU (for video playback)
  • Newer generation of RAM
  • Updated SD card slot
  • Upgraded Wi-Fi module (runs the same, but is twice as fast)

If you want to learn more, we did a full review of the Raspberry Pi 5 here.

So what does this mean for digital signage using Raspberry Pi?

Simply put, the upgraded hardware means the RPi5 will be able to handle larger and longer content more easily (think better rendering of videos and dashboards.)

In response these upgrades in the Pi hardware & OS, we've refined our app and improved the pairing process for Raspberry Pi devices. Here's what's new:

  • Expanded device support: We now fully support Raspberry Pi CM4 and Raspberry Pi 5, alongside legacy models such as Raspberry Pi 3 Model A+, B+, and B (though we don’t recommend those)
  • Offline playback: We now support offline playback of media and some apps on Raspberry Pis
  • Updated Chromium version: We've upgraded to Chromium version 125 to deliver improved performance and reliability for your content
  • Simplified Wi-Fi setup: Our updated Wi-Fi pairing process features a more intuitive interface, enabling easier network management and configuration changes directly from your device.
  • Extended file type support: We now support all file types of images (JPEG, JPEG 2000, PNG, WebP, SVG, GIF), videos (MP4, MPG, MPEG, MOV, AVI), audio (MP3), and documents (PDF).

Overall these are significant upgrades and we look forward to seeing you roll Fugo out on your new Raspberry Pi devices!
