Managing Your Screens & Screen Settings

We dive into the Screen dashboard & settings pages, explaining everything you need to know about managing your screens.

So, you’ve successfully paired your screen(s) and are ready to take the next step—ensuring your content plays smoothly and fine-tuning the settings for optimal performance.

Whether you’re looking to improve playback quality, adjust configurations, or troubleshoot media performance issues, this guide will help you through the process.

Let's dive in.


The Screens page

The Screens page is where you'll see all of the screens paired to your account, or within an individual space, if you've set up more than one space in your account.

💡 A note about screens & spaces

Screens that you assign to a specific space will only be viewable and manageable in that space by the users you have assigned to that space. Screens can not be moved between spaces. If you want to move a screen to a different space, you'll need to unpair it and re-pair it in the new space.

If you want users to have access to multiple screens in multiple spaces, you'll need to assign them the role of Owner.

Views

There are 3 ways to view your screens. You can switch between them from the buttons and toggle at the top right of the page.

Monitoring view

This is the default view for your Screens page. This view shows a screenshot of content playback for each paired screen within the screen's tile:

List view

This view shows a list of your screen tiles without the playback screenshot:

Map view

Toggling on the Show Map button will enable a map with your screen/s represented geographically with either a red (offline) or green (online) dot:



Filters & sorts

If you have many screens paired in your account, you may need to be able to find one quickly. This is where our search & sort tools come in handy.

Use the search bar to find a screen by name:

Use the filter tool to show active (online & showing content) or inactive (offline & not showing content) screens:

Use the sort tool sort your screens alphabetically or by creation date:



Labels

Each screen's tile will have labels to give you a quick understanding of their status:

  • Active: Active screens are connected to the internet and playing content, successfully connected to Fugo's server

  • Offline: Offline screens are showing cached content in offline mode (supported on most devices) or they're not connected to the internet

  • Playlist count: How many playlists are currently running on the screen

  • Operating system: Which OS the screen (or player) is running

  • Address: Your screen's address, if you'd added it



Casting

The Cast to Screens button allows you to start casting (AKA mirroring) your laptop or PC to your Fugo-connected screens immediately from inside your Fugo account.

Users on the Core & Enterprise plans can cast to multiple screens at once from the Screens page.

Adding screens

When you're ready to pair a screen to Fugo, click Create Screen and follow the instructions to install the Fugo app on your device & pair it to Fugo.

If you want to create a test screen - that is, a free screen bearing a Fugo watermark - choose Add a test screen from the drop down menu.

Grouping screens

You can create screen groups in order to take bulk actions on multiple screens at once such as publishing a playlist or quickly pushing a content update to all your screens.

Grouped screens all play the same content, so this feature is handy if you're planning to run the same content on all screens in the group. If you want them to play different content, then we recommend you leave them ungrouped.

Managing an individual screen

To view the management dashboard for an individual screen, click on the screen's name within its tile:

This will open the screen's management dashboard:

There are 5 tabs, which we'll cover more in depth below.


Dashboard tab

The dashboard tab will give you a quick overview of your device's connectivity status along with some usage stats and information on your device.

Let's look at a few of the important settings on this page.

Restart

The Restart button will allow you to remotely restart the Fugo player app on your device.

Orientation

This allows you to rotate the Fugo player app to match the orientation of your screen.

  • 0° = Landscape mode

  • 90° = Portrait mode

  • 180° = Flipped landscape mode

  • 270° = Flipped portrait mode

Additional information

Scrolling down will reveal a panel of additional info about your screen:

Of this info, some helpful ones to pay attention to are User agent and Screen resolution.

User agent

Your user agent information shows the current version of the Chrome browser your player is running.

Keeping your browser up-to-date is crucial for optimal performance with the Fugo app. We support a minimum of Chrome 50, but we recommend using Chrome 100 or higher for the best experience.

Browser versions are especially important for displaying the Power BI & Looker apps, as both apps are only supported on the latest two Chrome browser versions at any given moment.

Many consumer smart TVs come with outdated browsers, so be sure to check the browser version on your smart TV if you plan to use it with Fugo. Alternatively, consider investing in a player with an updated browser to ensure smooth operation. You can find our supported & recommended devices here.

Screen resolution

You may want to double check the resolution of your screen if your content isn't displaying in the right resolution.

One way to ensure your content matches the resolution of your screen is to use the Design Studio to set your slide canvases to match your screen resolution:


Playlists tab

The Playlists tab will show you what playlists are currently running on this screen.

Playlist interleaving

Toggle on the PLAY INTERLEAVED switch to mix content from multiple playlists together on your screen.

Instead of playing one playlist in full before moving to the next, Fugo will mix content from different playlists. For example, if you have two playlists, A and B, interleaving will display content in a sequence like A1, B1, A2, B2, and so on.


Activity tab

The Activity tab will show you all the activity that's been done to this screen, such as changing the screen name, changing video & image playback settings, rotating the screen, etc...



Casting tab

The Casting tab lets you set up a unique link that can be displayed on your screen which allows non-Fugo teammates and visitors to cast content directly to your Fugo-connected screens.

Settings tab

The Settings tab contains the advanced settings for configuring your screen.

By default, Fugo automatically detects your operating system and browser to optimize performance of the Fugo app on your device. However, if you need to override these defaults or troubleshoot content performance, advanced settings are available.

We'll cover a few of the helpful ones below.

Keep in mind that some devices and operating systems have additional settings specific to them, so if you don’t see certain options listed below in your screen settings, don’t worry.

Screen name & location

This is where you can edit the name and address of your screen.

Orientation

In addition to the Dashboard tab, you can also change the Fugo player app's orientation here.

Video codecs

A video codec compresses and decompresses video files, balancing quality and file size to ensure smooth playback. In digital signage content, the right codec is crucial for compatibility across devices, efficient use of bandwidth, and optimal performance.

Fugo automatically selects the best codec based on your device and operating system, but you can adjust this setting if needed to better suit your specific requirements.

If you're noticing your video content isn’t playing or playing smoothly, you may try to switch the codec (we recommend either WebM or H.264) from the drop down.

Image formats

By default, we transcode all uploaded images to WebP for optimal performance on screen.

If you're noticing that images aren't displaying or playing in good quality, you can try switching the image format to Original Format from the dropdown.

Display media in original format

Enabling the DISPLAY IN ORIGINAL FORMAT toggle will cause the player to use the files exactly as you uploaded them, without any transcoding.

This means that if you upload an image larger than Full HD, it will be downsized to Full HD unless this toggle is enabled. Note that this setting applies to all media files, including videos and images, and is not specific to the image format setting.

Kiosk mode

Kiosk mode will allow you to run just the Fugo player app on your device and lock it down so no one can interfere with it. It's useful if you're using the screen in a public area.

Autostart

Enabling the AUTOSTART feature ensures that the Fugo player automatically launches when your device boots up. In case of a power failure or an app crash, the device will also automatically relaunch the app.

If someone on your team powers on the screen/player daily, enabling this setting guarantees that Fugo starts up automatically when the device is turned on.

Screenshots

You can enable & disable the screenshotting feature, which allows Fugo to take periodic screenshots of your content & display it back to you in the CMS on your screen's tile and Dashboard tab.

For control over how frequently Fugo takes a screenshot, you can use the interval setter to increase or decrease the screenshot interval.

Use HTML Screenshot

This feature creates a screenshot by reconstructing the image based on what is currently displayed, rather than capturing a native screenshot. It's especially useful for platforms that don't support traditional screenshotting and is primarily used for debugging.

While this feature is still a work in progress, it can help ensure accurate screenshots in such scenarios.

Android Screenshot Method

The Webview Capture option takes a screenshot of the Fugo player screen, excluding elements like the top bar. It’s a straightforward method that works for most cases but can't capture real-time video playback—it only captures the first or last frame of a video and may cause a brief hiccup on some devices.

For complete screenshots, including videos, use Screen Capture. This method captures the entire screen without degrading performance. However, you'll need to allow screen capture on the TV itself by accepting a system popup:

Date & Time

By default, Fugo uses your device's IP address to detect its time and timezone, determining your location and setting the correct time.

However, you can choose to use the local time set on the device instead. This option is useful if your devices or internet connection use proxies or VPNs, which can route your traffic through different locations and affect scheduling accuracy.

Storing media in IndexDB

If you're using a Brightsign player or an older device, the standard cache API may not be available, which can affect offline playback.

To resolve this, you can toggle on media storage in IndexedDB, allowing your content to be cached for offline use. Enabling this setting won't cause any issues, but don't use it if your device supports Cache API (support).

Forcing the player to store media in cache

When there’s a native method for caching videos, Fugo uses built-in APIs to store video files, but this can occasionally fail.

By toggling this option on, you can force Fugo to use the browser’s API to store media in the cache, providing an alternative method for reliable offline playback.

Enabling transition animations

By default, Fugo applies a crossfade transition between content. However, if you experience issues with the transitions, you can switch this option off to disable them.

Screen power off schedule

Fugo allows you to set a schedule to put your screen to "sleep" (that is, turn it black) outside of operational hours.

Use the From and To fields to define the period in which you want your screen to sleep.

☝️ Sony Bravia screen users will see an additional message with a pre-shared key that corresponds with an additional step to set up the sleep schedule in the screen authentication settings.
