What are Fugo TV Dashboards?
So, you're using a digital signage software platform to get your internal dashboard and reporting data onto your workplace TV screens. Or, at least you want to. This is where Fugo's TV Dashboard feature set is here to help.
Fugo TV Dashboards is a feature of our digital signage CMS that allows you to display password-protected business dashboards and web pages to your workplace TV screens, using a secure service to keep your data safe at all times.
Using this toolset, you can share just about any URL that lives behind a secure login on TV screens.
How it works
We use a Chrome browser extension that captures real-time screenshots of the data you want to display live on screen without storing your browser data.
The extension records your login steps to the URL of your choice (such as Salesforce) and opens the dashboard you want to display. Fugo then executes these steps from within a secure, isolated server environment, taking auto-updating snapshots of your dashboard for you to preview and publish to your screen.
This service can run on our Cloud server, on your own server, or on your Windows-based player.
I haven't tried the TV Dashboards feature yet - how do I start?
You can find instructions for getting started with TV Dashboards here. If you're interested in how this service works on your local servers, you can read our guide for On Premise Dashboards here.
For the purpose of this guide, we're going to cover how you can configure your screenshot before capturing it, as well as how to crop & customize presentations of your saved dashboards using Fugo's Design Studio.
Configuring your dashboard screenshot
π‘ Note that this section will be explaining options for taking the screenshot of your dashboard.
If you're not sure how to open your dashboard, screenshot & save it, check out the guide links in the section above.
Once you've reached your dashboard in the extension window, you'll be prompted to take a screenshot of it. By default, this screenshot will capture everything that's displayed to you in the URL.
However, there are options for how to take this screenshot if you find it overwhelming to look at.
Erase elements from the screenshot
Use the Eraser tool in the bottom tool bar to get rid of certain elements on your dashboard that you don't want crowding your screenshot. That might include navigation or settings panels that appear around your dashboard.
βοΈ Make sure to hit Finish Erasing when you're done. Then, Capture Dashboard when you're happy with the view.
Take screenshot of isolated elements
Use the Element Screenshot tool to take a screenshot of isolated elements, such as particular charts or graphs, that you want to display. Tracking just one or a couple points of data might be easier on screen
βοΈ You have to be a bit careful when selecting an element of the page with this tool: it might not always be intuitive. We are still working on a better way to implement capturing dashboard elements in the future. If this is a priority for you, please get in touch with us at support@fugo.ai.
If the element capture feature isn't working with your dashboard, don't worry - you can always use the cropping tool in the Design Studio to achieve the same isolation of the element. To learn how, jump down a bit here.
Enable scrolling
If your dashboard is particularly long and you want it to scroll on screen, you can enable this from the Advanced Settings of your dashboard:
π‘ Note: To set the scroll, you'll need to input a pixel height for Fugo to scroll. This may take some trial & error - if you need help, reach out to support@fugo.ai.
Customizing your dashboard display in the Design Studio
π‘ Note that this section will be explaining how to work with dashboard screenshots that have been successfully captured & saved to your Dashboards library.
If you're not sure how to get your dashboard screenshot & save it, check out the guide links in the section above.
Cropping your dashboards
Not all dashboards are necessarily screen ready or "screen friendly" as we say at Fugo. Some may be quite long, have several small elements that aren't visible from a distance, or overwhelm the viewer with too much data at once.
You can use the cropping tool in Fugo's Design Studio to crop dashboards into more digestible pieces or otherwise satisfy your requirement for displaying it nicely on screen.
Here's how:
1. Add your dashboard to the canvas on your slide from the Dashboards library in the left hand panel.
β
2. We suggest zooming out a bit to give you more space to work with when cropping. There is a zoom setting in the top navigation bar, and you can also use the trackpad on your laptop to zoom in & out.
3. Select the Crop icon from the top tool bar.
This will reveal two crop box outlines around your dashboard that enable different cropping functions.
The blue crop box can be used to crop out elements of your dashboard & set the frame for the image:
The purple crop box can be used to stretch and shrink your dashboard image and move it around to set its position within the frame:
Cropping is a great way to make your dashboards more digestible on screen without reconfiguring them or saving new dashboard views inside your data platform!

Enriching your dashboard slides
You can use any content source or setting available inside the Design Studio to further customize or enrich your dashboard display!
Just a few ideas are:
Add your company logo to your dashboard slides:
π‘ Hint: You can easily upload your company to Fugo from right inside the Design Studio! Just drag and drop it onto your canvas or into Uploads in the left hand settings panel.
Incorporate other apps & integrations into the display, such as the World Clock app or CNN app to grab attention with live updating headlines:
π‘ Hint: Each app can be configured in the settings panel that appears when you select the app. In our example above βοΈ we've cropped the World Clock app and given it a transparent background to better fit into the display. We've also added the CNN app at the bottom of the canvas and set its colors to match our brand.
Add QR codes to your display to create calls to action for your colleagues pertaining to your dashboards or workflows:
Add text boxes with important messages, reminders, or requests pertaining to your dashboards or data initiatives:
π‘ Hint: You can easily create scrolling ticker texts using the animation settings in the left hand panel. Just make sure set the width of your text box to match the dimensions of the screen you'd like it to crawl (in our example above βοΈ we fit our text box to the width of our screen.)
Customizing Power BI & Looker dashboards
If you've used our Power BI or Looker integrations to connect your dashboard or report, you also have similar tools at your disposal to create richer, more custom slides for your data.
Let's start by quickly looking the configuration settings available in the apps.
Scrolling
Both the Power BI and Looker apps have the option to enable scrolling in the app's settings.
You'll find the settings to the left of the canvas if you're using the Design Studio to configure the app:
Or to the right of the preview if you're using the Playlist builder to configure the app:
π‘ Note: To set the scroll, you'll need to input a pixel height for Fugo to scroll. This may take some trial & error - if you need help, reach out to support@fugo.ai.
Further customizing and enriching your slides
If you want to build custom branded or configured slides around your Looker or Power BI dashboards, you can use the Design Studio to get creative.
The same options we described in the section above for cropping and customization will be available to you.
Here are some ways you might want to enrich your dashboard slides:
Crop your dashboard into a custom shape:
This particular slide was made with one of our templates where we cropped the Looker app into the 3D shape and used the corner radius handle to round the corner edges of the app:
Create custom backgrounds and texts in your brand colors:
Or add entrance animations to the elements on your slide:
Subtle animated flourishes can really help attract eyes to your screens π
