Table of contents

When it comes to digital signage, there’s definitely a lot to think about. First, what hardware do you need? Second, you need to get it installed physically, set up, and ready to go. Then, you need to pick which software you’ll use to power it (obviously, we’re a little biased on this one).

But the fourth decision is arguably the most important one; what content do you display? Digital signage content management systems will offer varying support for different content types but what works best? If you use your screens right and create engaging content, your brand can really stick in your customers’ minds — not to mention provide you with a great ROI.

Thankfully, a good content management solution can make it easy, quick, and simple to create impactful and effective content for your digital signage, enabling you to get the most out of your investment.

In the guide below, we’ll show you all of the kinds of content you can display on your screens using Fugo.

Media

Every Fugo account is equipped with unlimited storage of media files. You'll find your media library on the Media page:

We support a wide range of file types:

  • JPEG

  • JPEG2000

  • PNG

  • PDF

  • MPG

  • MPEG

  • MOV

  • MP4

  • AVI

  • SVG

By default, we'll transcode your media to a format best optimized for your device (this will be WebP by default) but there are settings available to configure your image format preferences in your screen's settings tab.

Apps & integrations

Our growing list of apps help you repurpose content from where it lives, and easily add live feeds to your screens in just a few clicks.

You'll find our apps & integrations on the Apps page of your account:

Most third-party apps will require that you have an account set up, and some will have associated charges for their services.

Apps fall into a few main categories:

File repositories

These apps allow you to connect Fugo to folders where your team is already amassing and storing files you might want to use on your screens.

To use them, you'll log into your account and select the folder or files you want to put on screen. When you update your folder, the new images and videos will automatically be added to your content queue.

Internal communication

These apps allow you to integrate with your work tech stack to display presentations, spreadsheets or URLs from your internal systems that track your workflows and operations or disseminate company messaging.

A few popular ones are:

News

News apps display live headline feeds from your favorite news sources tracking international news, sports, tech, and more. They're great for catching attention and reminding your audience that your screen content is fresh and worth watching.

A few popular ones are:

Video

Video apps allow you to drop video URLs, playlists URLs, or an HLS stream into your content playlists:

Note that you'll need a pretty good and stable internet connection to continually display these apps on your screen.

Social media

Social apps allow you to display feeds from your company's social accounts onto your TV screens:

Miscellaneous

Apps that don't fall into the above categories but are useful, especially for customer-facing screen environments:

Dashboards, reports, & KPIs

Where Fugo really specializes is in our support for displaying dashboards, reports & URLs that live behind authentication on TV screens.

We refer to this feature suite as TV Dashboards.

It allows you to show SSO, 2FA & password-protected URLs of your dashboards & reports from just about any tool, including:

... and loads more! If it exists behind a login, chances are we can display it.

You can find your connected dashboards and get started with the feature on the Dashboards page:

How it works

We use a Chrome browser extension that captures real-time screenshots of the data you want to display live on screen without storing your browser data.

The extension records your login steps to the URL of your choice (such as Salesforce) and opens the dashboard you want to display. Fugo then executes these steps from within a secure, isolated server environment, taking auto-updating snapshots of your dashboard for you to preview and publish to your screen.

This service can run on our Cloud server, on your own server, or on your Windows-based player.

Once you've saved dashboards to your account, you can even crop & customize how they display on your screens.

Desktop apps

Fugo allows you to show your local desktop apps to your digital signage screen/s with our Local App Casting feature.

It works by connecting to your local IP address to access your desktop app, then taking & streaming screenshots of your app every second for an as-close-to-live as possible preview of your app.

You'll find the app on the Apps page of your account:

You can learn more about casting your desktop apps here.

Links & websites

Fugo's can take a link to a website or service and renders the content making it easy to repurpose web content for your digital signs.

We can display both public & private URLs.

Public URLS

Public links (that have permission to be embedded in a iFrame) can be displayed using our Web page app.

There is an option to add a custom script implementation to the Web Page app in order to display your preferred URL, which comes in handy to:

  • Display dashboards and webpages with basic authentication (user ID/password)

  • Show content past a login, such as graphics, notices, or data hosted on a webpage

Note that custom scripts for the Web page app are currently only supported on Windows & Android devices.

You can learn more about using scripts here.

Private URLs

For internal URLs with more robust authentication than email/password, you'll need to use our TV dashboards feature, described above.

QR code links

Another way to share a link on screen without displaying it is to use our QR code app. The app can be embedded into your slides and configured with the URL of your choice so that your audience can scan & be taken to your target link.

Design Studio content

The Design Studio is Fugo's native content builder for building slideshows, presentations and content loops that pull together media, QR codes, text, menus, dashboards, and live apps.

You can think of it like Canva, but for your TV screen content!

It's a way for your team to create content directly inside Fugo without having to leave for a third party app where you'll download & upload your creations in Fugo.

You can find your created content and get started with the Design Studio on the Studio page:

Touch content

Simple touch flows

If your digital signage screens support touch functionality, you can create engaging interactive experiences with touch content.

Using the Design Studio, you can easily set up touch navigation flows between slides. By linking buttons and other interactive elements to different slides, customers can touch items on the screen to navigate seamlessly to new content.

To make elements on your slides touchable and set up navigation flows, simply use the left-hand settings panel within the Design Studio.

Complex touch applications

if you're looking to implement more complex functionalities, such as adding items to a cart for checkout or enabling self check-in at a hotel reception, you'll need to embed your web application within Fugo.

These advanced setups can be a bit more intricate, so our friendly support team is here to help. Just reach out to us at support@fugo.ai, and we'll assist you in setting up these advanced interactions.

Templates

For those looking for a bit of inspiration or who just a need helping hand with slide design, you can get started with a templates.

Our template library houses templates for slides you can create for lots of use cases in different industries - promoting hospitality or retail rewards programs, making announcements to your workforce, event reminders, digital notices, digital menu boards, and just about anything else you can think of.

You can find them on the Templates page of your account:

And in the Templates tab of the Design Studio:

This collection grows every week, and you can even request a template!
