This guide will walk you through how you can invite your colleagues to mirror their devices onto your Fugo screens without accessing your wider Fugo account with a feature called "Quick Casting." It involves creating a special role & narrowing down permissions for extra security in your Fugo account. If you don't need that extra precaution and simply want to cast to your screen without any extra fuss, you can view our screen casting guide here.
What is Screen Casting?
Screen casting (also known as screen mirroring) is a super handy way to display the screen of your laptop, phone, or tablet on a workplace TV screen. This can help you work collaboratively with your team, or deliver presentations to clients.
However, it can be a bit of a complicated process at times, especially if the device that you’re trying to cast from isn’t already connected to your digital signage in some way. It can involve switching WiFi networks (on both the screen and the casting device!), creating multiple user accounts, too many emails, invitations, and time spent stressing, instead of working — it’s all too frustrating!
The solution: Fugo Quick Casting
So let’s get rid of those complications. Fugo is both a screen mirroring software & digital signage software rolled into one solution! With Fugo Quick Casting, you can simply and easily allow any device to cast to your Fugo-connected digital signage and screens. You don’t need to switch WiFi networks, and it’s all handled through the Fugo web or desktop app. But don’t worry! You don’t even need to give anybody full access to your Fugo CMS.
Here’s how to get started with quick casting:
How to use Fugo Quick Casting
💡 Note: to use this feature, your screen(s) will need to be paired to Fugo CMS. You can find setup guides for all our supported player & device platforms in our hardware help center.
And if you haven't signed up for Fugo yet, you can start a 14-day free trial here.
1. Set up a Quick Casting role
First, we are going to use Fugo's Roles feature to set up a role that will give your invitees access only to Fugo's screen casting feature. This is ideal if you want other members of your team or organization to be able to cast to your digital signage screens without accidentally interfering with anything inside your Fugo account such as your screens, playlists, or content assets.
1.0
Log in to your Fugo account, and head over to your account settings.
1.1
Head over to the “Roles” tab, and click Create Role.
1.2
In the “Add new role” popup that appears, you’ll need to toggle on the Quick cast to screens permission*. Give your new role a name - I've named mine "Quick Caster" - and click Add new role.
*Note that as a Business Plan or Enterprise user, you have the flexibility to create roles & permissions as you see fit for your org; so you don't have to create this role or strictly limit its permissions only to Quick cast. We just recommend doing so if you want to lock down the assets in your account from accidental interference by people who do not participate in managing your digital signage.
2. Invite your Quick Caster
2.0
Next, head over to the “People and Spaces” tab, and invite your caster by clicking the New dropdown, and selecting Invite person.
2.1
Enter the email address of your invitee into the popup, and make sure you assign them to the right space with the screen(s) they'll access and that you assign them the role you created in the previous step. In this example, we’ve called the role “Quick Caster”. Click Invite.
2.2
Have your caster click the link in the invitation email that they’ve received from Fugo. If you don’t see it in their inbox within a few minutes, make sure to check the Junk or Spam folder!
2.3
They’ll need to create a password and click Sign in.
Optional: Install the Fugo app on your Quick Caster's device
To make it even more convenient for your Quick caster, you can install the Fugo desktop app on their device; that way they don't need to go to their browser to access Fugo and cast.
On your Quick caster's laptop or PC, open your browser & go to https://www.fugo.ai/app.
Wait until the icon appears in your address bar suggesting that you install the Fugo desktop app. Here's what it looks like on Windows & macOS, respectively.
Install the app. On Windows, you can choose to auto-start the Fugo app when you boot your device.
💡 Note - Fugo acts like any other native application. You can uninstall it any time just like you would another app on your desktop.
3. Cast to Your Screen
3.0
Once your quick caster has signed into Fugo, they’ll see the “Screens” page. Their account is restricted to only view and cast to your screens list, so there won’t be any other links in the top navigation.
3.1
To cast to your screen, your caster simply has to click the purple Cast button to the right of the screen that they want to cast to. Then, select whether to cast their whole screen, a window, or one particular tab.
And you’re all done! Your quick caster is now casting to their chosen screen — no headaches necessary!
