💡 Note: this guide walks you through the steps for setting up a professional SSSP display. If you are using a consumer-grade Samsung TV, head over to this guide to find your setup instructions.
Using Samsung Displays for Digital Signage
Samsung is one of the most recognizable names in screen technology (if not the very foremost.) After decades of manufacturing and selling across the globe, their products have become ubiquitous - available everywhere, easy to purchase, and come backed with the company's rock-solid reputation.
They carry numerous lines of screens that are almost too diverse to even go into in detail, ranging from standard consumer to professional grade. Though when it comes to digital signage, their commercial smart signage displays are second to almost none in terms of playback quality and lifetime durability.
Samsung commercial-grade smart signage displays are built specifically for professional use and (sometimes) up to 24/7 continuous operation. With built-in system on chip (SoC) media players, SSSP displays offer an all-in-one solution when paired with Fugo digital signage software.
What is SSSP?
SSSP stands for the Samsung Smart Signage Platform. It’s a fully integrated program that lets software developers create solutions that work on Samsung TIZEN System-on-Chip displays.
Why use Samsung Smart Signage displays?
Consumer vs. commercial screens
Commercial-grade screens are always going to come with a higher sticker price than your standard consumer TV. That's because they're built to be used in a professional setting - which throws a lot more at a screen than home usage.
When choosing screens for a digital signage deployment, it's probably tempting to cut a few corners on the hardware to save on entry costs. Why pay thousands of dollars on a professional screen when you can run into your local big box store and pluck a TV off the shelf for half the price?
While there may be some use cases that are served fine with a consumer TV, we at Fugo almost always recommend purchasing a professional screen.
Why? Here’s the short answer: TVs and monitors might look similar, but they’re very different, and TVs simply aren’t suited to the operating demands of digital signage.
Digital signage lives in a much more demanding environment - often being required to withstand long operation hours in tight installation areas and operate in portrait position.
SSSP display features
Samsung Smart Signage displays make great options for professional digital signage deployments, owing to the quality of their manufacture & production.
Here are some key features:
Light & strong: aluminum frame & can stand 4x their weight
Flexibility: suited to various installation environments and configurations, including wall mounts, ceiling mounts and other challenging installations
Heat & dust resistant: Thermal design with a cooling system of vents & fans to handle the extra heat
Extended operation: rated for 16/7 usage (16 hours, 7 days a week) or around-the-clock, seven days a week (24/7)
Sufficient brightness: high 2,500-nit brightness, an auto brightness sensor that optimizes brightness, and anti-glare technology for visibility in direct sunlight
Form factor: self-contained ultra-slim display with an embedded power box, fingerprint-resistant finish, and narrow bezels (to enable multiple displays to be joined in a video wall)
Playback quality: Crystal 4K UHD picture resolution & video playback, HDR, supports up to three FHD videos for simultaneous playback
Note: not all Samsung products are compatible with SSSP, so when purchasing, check the list of compatible displays.
How To Reset Your Display
We recommend that you perform a reset on your display before setting up Fugo. This will make the installation go more smoothly. Experienced technicians can skip this step when needed.
Turn your SSSP off.
Boot up into service mode by pressing (one after the other) Mute >
1
>8
>2
, and then On on your remote. Your SSSP will boot up and you’ll see the service mode menu.
Select SVC.
Select the Reset option.
Select SVC reset.
Wait until it’s complete and you get a confirmation message. The loaded screen will display the SVC reset option again. Select it.
The word "Wait" may be displayed over the SVC reset button. Wait for it to vanish.
If your TV does not come back on automatically, manually turn it on with the remote.
How To Set Up Your Display
Turn on your display (make sure you aim the remote at the sensors, which need to be plugged into the back of the TV.)
Choose a language.
Choose Basic Setup under the Installation Type.
Choose Landscape or Portrait mode under the Display Orientation.
Select an option for Auto Power Off - Off / 4 hours / 6 hours / 8 hours / 16 hours

Wait a bit and then select the URL Launcher down below on the menu.
How To Install Fugo On Your Samsung Smart Signage Display
To get Fugo up and running on your SSSP, you can either install the Fugo Web App, or install the Fugo App from a USB. We recommend sticking with the Web App, as it allows you to automatically receive updates and patches, which means your Fugo installation is kept up-to-date and secure.
1. Installing Fugo as a Web app
1.1
After booting up your SSSP, please select the "URL Launcher" from the toolbar.
1.2
Select "Install Web App"
1.3
Type in http://t.fugo.ai
1.4
Once the Fugo Web App is downloaded and installed, you'll see the pairing PIN and QR code to allow you to connect and manage your new screen with your Fugo account.
1.5
Check your toolbar to ensure that the Fugo Web App icon is present.
💡 If the installation of the Fugo Web App fails, there can be a couple of causes. First of all, check that your SSSP is connected to the internet and can access other URLs. If the connection is fine, it's likely that there's an issue with SSL certificates on the t.fugo.ai URL. You will need to update the OS running on your Samsung TV to fix this issue.
2. Installing from a USB device
This is an alternative way to install Fugo that we typically don't recommend if you can install the Web App via the normal method above. This is because when the Fugo app is installed this way, it won't receive automatic updates and can't be kept secure and up-to-date by our team.
2.1
First, you'll need to set up a USB stick with the files for the Fugo app. Visit http://t.fugo.ai/sssp_config.xml and right-click the page. Press Save As and download the XML file, keeping the name as sssp_config.
2.2
You will also need to visit http://t.fugo.ai/Fugo.wgt. Your browser should automatically download this file without you needing to click Save As.
2.3
Next, create a folder on your USB called "SSSP" and drop both files you've previously downloaded into that folder.
2.4
Turn your SSSP on, and insert your USB drive. Open the URL Launcher from the toolbar on your Samsung display.
2.5
Select Install from USB device.
2.6
If prompted, enter your security PIN.
2.7
Once the Fugo app has been installed from your USB drive, you will see the Fugo pairing screen with a QR code and a pairing PIN that will allow you to add your new screen to your Fugo account.
2.8
Take a look at your toolbar and confirm that the icon for the Fugo app is there to ensure that your app is properly installed.
3. Updating SSSP OS Version
When you're updating the firmware of your SSSP, it's very important to make sure that there are no power cuts and that the device stays powered on the whole time. If the SSSP is interrupted mid-update, you might run into problems when trying to boot your display up next time.
4. Changing Screen Orientation
Whether your display is put up in portrait or landscape, you'll need to make sure that your content is displaying the right way up! Thankfully, it's easy to change the orientation of your screen in the settings.
4.1
Select Settings from the toolbar.
4.2
Select OnScreen Display
4.3
Under the Display Orientation menu, select either Portrait or Landscape as applicable.
2. How to pair your screen to Fugo
Note: to pair your screen, you'll need a Fugo account. If you have not registered a Fugo account yet, you can head over to fugo.ai/app to start your 14-day free trial.
2.1
After successfully logging in, you can click Create, then, Screen on the Welcome page. Alternatively, you can navigate to the Screens page in the top navigation bar and click Create Screens.
2.2
Enter the PIN from the Fugo player window into the space provided.
2.3
To finish the pairing process, give your screen a name and add a location.
💡 Hint: We recommend you name your player something relevant such as '68 Lombard Street' or 'Clapham Coffee Shop'. For my example, I’ve named my screen “Fugo HQ." The address should be your screen’s location.
2.4
Your screen will now be listed on your Screens page:
Congratulations, you’ve added your screen! Here, have this cake 🍰 to celebrate!
Now you’re ready to start publishing content. We’ll cover that in the next section.
3. Publish content with Fugo CMS
With your screen all set up, you’re ready to give it something to play!
Fugo allows you to display several types of content:
Images
Videos
4K & HTML 5 content
3rd party integrations from our app store
TV dashboards like Looker, Tableau, Power BI + more
You can use our Design Studio to create screen-ready content like digital posters & menu boards without having to leave Fugo for a 3rd party tool - learn how here.
When your content is ready to go on screen, you can use our friendly playlist builder to publish your content - learn how here.
Are you getting the "Unable to connect to the server" error?
Try this:
Make sure the Date, Time & Timezone are correct
Make sure http://t.fugo.ai is written in all lowercase letters
Try http://t.fugo.ai and http://t.fugo.ai/ (trailing slash)
If none of this helps, you can install the app from a USB stick:
Download two files:
Create a folder in your USB called
SSSP
Put the files into that folder
Insert the USB into your TV
In the URL launcher, select Install from USB device
