Fugo offers a flexible TV dashboard solution that can be run in three different ways: in the Cloud, on a private server, or directly on a player device within your local network. While we refer to these as three 'types' of dashboards—cloud-hosted dashboards (or 'TV Dashboards'), on-premise dashboards, and player-local dashboards—the core solution remains the same.

The key difference lies in where the dashboard loading and screenshot capture take place: either in Fugo’s cloud server, on your private server within your network, or directly on the player device.

Let’s break down each option and when to use them.

Cloud-hosted dashboards (“TV Dashboards”)

You’ll see Fugo refer to “TV Dashboards” a lot within our website, help center, and video material. We’re most commonly referring to Cloud-hosted dashboards. Cloud-hosted dashboards rely on Fugo’s cloud infrastructure to securely connect to online dashboards like Salesforce, Grafana or Tableau.

This setup uses a Chrome browser extension to record your login steps and capture real-time screenshots of your dashboard. All these steps are securely executed in Fugo’s cloud environment, ensuring your login credentials and data stay protected.

How it works

  • Where it happens: In Fugo’s cloud server.

  • Process

    • You record your login steps to access your dashboard using Fugo’s Chrome browser extension.

    • Fugo replicates these steps in its cloud server to load your dashboard and capture real-time screenshots.

    • Screenshots are sent to your connected screens and updated based on your chosen refresh interval.

Why choose cloud-hosted dashboards?

  • You have remote access to your dashboards from anywhere with an internet connection.

  • You prefer to offload processing and management to Fugo’s secure cloud infrastructure.

  • You want a simple, managed setup for securely displaying online dashboards.

Available on: Essential, Core, and Enterprise plans (with different refresh rates).

  • Essential Plan: Up to 3 URLs, refreshed once a day max.

  • Core Plan: Unlimited URLs, refreshed once an hour max.

  • Enterprise Plan: Unlimited URLs, with unlimited refreshes.

On-premise dashboards

On-premise dashboards are designed for companies with private servers or internal data environments. This feature allows you to securely load dashboards on your own servers instead of Fugo’s cloud. With the Fugo TV Dashboards Control Center app installed on a Windows device, the dashboard loading and screenshot capture happen locally on your server.

How it works

Where it happens: On your private server using a Windows device within your local network.

Key points

  1. You need an additional Windows device (server)

  2. Compatible with any supported modern player

  3. Requires additional configuration

Process

  • Install the TV Dashboards Control Center app on a Windows device within your local network.

  • Record your login steps using the app to access the dashboard on your private server.

  • The app replicates these steps locally, captures screenshots, and sends them to your screens based on your refresh settings.

Why choose on-premise dashboards?

  • Your dashboards are hosted on private servers or internal networks that can’t be accessed from outside.

  • You want to keep all dashboard data and access within your infrastructure.

  • You need more control over the local environment and processes for displaying secure internal data.

  • You want control over the refresh rate of your dashboard.

Available on: Enterprise plan only (supported on Windows devices only).

Player-local dashboards

Player-local dashboards are designed for companies that need to process and display dashboards directly on a player device within their local network environment. Instead of using Fugo’s cloud server or a private server, everything runs on the player device itself. You’ll record your login steps, and the player will handle loading the dashboard and capturing screenshots locally.

This setup ensures that dashboards are accessed from within the local network where the player is situated, providing a high level of control and privacy.

How it works

Where it happens: On your player using a Windows device within your local network.

Key points

  1. You don’t need an additional device

  2. Only Windows players supported

  3. Doesn’t require additional configuration

Process

  • You record your login steps to access your dashboard using Fugo’s Chrome browser extension.

  • Fugo replicates these steps directly on your player instead of in the cloud, ensuring all data processing remains local.

  • Screenshots are captured and displayed to your screens by the player device, updating at the intervals you choose.

Why choose player-local dashboards?

  • Your dashboards or data are accessible only within a private local network.

  • You have strict security requirements for keeping all data inside your local infrastructure.

  • You want full control over processing and updating dashboards without external connections.

  • You want control over the refresh rate of your dashboard.

Available on: Enterprise plan only (supported on Windows devices only).

Choosing the right dashboard type

When deciding which type of TV dashboard to use, consider where your data is hosted, your security requirements, and how much control you need over processing and updating your dashboards. Here’s a quick overview:

  • Cloud-hosted dashboards: Best for users who need secure access to dashboards hosted online, with Fugo managing the processing in the cloud.

  • On-premise dashboards: Ideal for companies with dashboards accessible only from their office networks, requiring a Windows device (server) for setup and compatible with any supported modern player.

  • Player-local dashboards: Perfect for companies with dashboards accessible only from their office networks, running directly on a Windows player without needing additional devices or complex setup.
